Major Norwegian daily Aftenposten reports that one of Scandinavia’s leading insurance companies TRYG saves millions of Norwegian crowns thanks to Van Ameyde Norway’s heat pump project. Van Ameyde Norway has handled heat pump claims on behalf of Norwegian insurers for over two years. It took the initiative when the rapid increase in the number of heat pumps installed in Norwegian homes and business started to result in a surge in heat-pump related damage claims. The number of claims rises by 25% each year and insurers have found themselves at a loss as to the cause of the breakdowns, which is why generally most claims are paid.
Heat pump claims are only covered in case of external electric disturbance, such as lightning. Most breakdowns are, however, simply caused by wear and tear, but to discover the real cause electronic expertise is needed. The problem for insurers is that the average amount claimed does not justify the cost of calling in a specialist surveyor to physically inspect the pumps.
Van Ameyde Norway has developed desk-top methods to determine the real cause of a breakdown, and as a result 85% of the claims managed by Van Ameyde are now justly rejected. The methods are based on a combination of statistics, expertise and experience. Having recognised the accuracy and cost-saving aspect of these methods, over 50% of Norway’s heat-pump insurance market is now served by Van Ameyde Norway.
